Drop me a line!

My experience of scuba diving in the US is limited to diving in Florida. If you're interested in the traveling part of it, a description is found under Traveling.

In general, we weren't too exited about the diving in FL, but still had a couple of good ones.

We weren't too lucky with the conditions in Key west. We were supposed to enjoy laid back dives on local wrecks, but all trips were canceled due to bad weather causing shitty visibility. We ended up getting just two dives there:

Fantom Bar - Key West

Even with bad visibility, this was an enjoyable dive - a nice, slow drift dive, with moderate current. We saw lots of "old friends" like Triggers, Barracudas, Porcupines - and I'm sure we would have met even more of them if we'd been able to see longer than the tips of our noses.

Middle Sambo - Key West

A typical shallow dive that should have been relaxing. We had really poor visibility, but saw huge lots of lobsters. I also accidentally swam directly onto a big Sting Ray, and I'm not sure which one of us that jumped the highest.

Horse Shoe - Key Marathon

The dive we had in Key Marathon was definitely something different! It was a nice, long, shallow dive, with okay visibility and tons of colorful fish of all shapes and sizes.

To me, the best memory of scuba diving in the Keys isn't the diving itself - it's the guys at Capt Hook's Marina. They are some of the friendliest, nicest and most professional dive operators we met in Florida - don't drive by, stop and go for a trip with them!

Benwood Wreck - Key Largo

Benwood Wreck is a WWII freighter - now a permanent residence for Groupers. We had a pretty good dive there, with lot's of Sand Rays, Batfish, Tunas, Barracudas, and of course Groupers.

French Reef - Key Largo

French Reef is a shallow dive, in a nice area, with all the common reef fishies. We had an okay dive,

but the dive master sucked big time, so we decided to leave Key Largo after only two dives.

There are several dive operators there, but we figured out we'd spend the rest of the time in Fort Lauderdale instead.

Refel Wreck - Ft. Lauderdale

A beautiful and interesting wreck dive - clearly the best dive we had in Florida.

When I was in Thailand, I thought that the grandfather of all Barracudas lived on White Rock, Koh Tao. Well, I was wrong - he's living here. We met right over the wreck, and soon figured out that we were on a crash course. This resulted in a "hovering/steering" contest, which I won - but only after 10 minutes. Being in the middle of what's probably his

living room, I should have let him win, but I love fishes with an attitude, and couldn't resist the challenge.  ;o)

Fish Pedestal - Ft. Lauderdale

Cozy dive on a site swarming with Barracudas and French + Grey Angelfish.
